Curb appeal is all about making a great first impression. A home with great curb appeal can stop traffic. It can entice people to look a little more closely at the “For Sale” sign on the front lawn. It is what gets potential buyers out of their vehicles and onto your property
A home with terrible curb appeal is going to get a terrible turn out for an Open House, will be less likely to catch realtors and buyers eyes and will be incredibly difficult to sell.
So, how can you up the curb appeal on your property? Try these quick tips:
Make your front door a statement piece. Install a beautiful wood door, or paint the existing one a fun colour. If you don’t want to change the door itself, consider dressing it up with a pretty wreath or a cute doormat. Polish the handle and wash down any dirty spots.
House numbers, doorhandles, locks, mounted mailboxes and light fixtures are all fairly inexpensive to replace and important items that should be in good condition. They are not simply functional: they also help convey the style and aesthetic of the home. Make sure they are in top condition!
If your front lawn does not have a garden, you can buy one in a box! Container gardens are inexpensive, easy to maintain and perfect for adding a touch of colour and freshness to the front of your home. If people see that the homeowners have been able to maintain a garden and well manicured front lawn, they will assume the interior is just as well looked after.
A clear walkway is crucial for both the safety of people walking up to your house and the overall curb appeal. Add some pretty tiling, line it with little plants or light fixtures, etc.. Get creative! This, in particular, is often the most overlooked feature. Spend a weekend and really make sure that your walkway is ready to make a welcoming statement.
