Canada Day in Calgary

Happy Canada Day Long Weekend!

Canada Day Long Weekend is born out of Canada Day, a day celebrating the birth of the true north strong and free. At Reference they explain, "Canada Day, celebrated every year on July 1, is a Canadian federal holiday that celebrates the enactment of the British North America Act of 1867. The act united three colonies into a single country within the British Empire, and named that country Canada." Essentially, Canada Day is Canada's birthday!

Here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada Day is used to mark a number of notable moments in our year. First, it signifies the first long weekend of the summer! Campgrounds are going to be packed as people get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Second, it is the first official weekend that Alberta students are not in school! Most schools have their final day today, bringing happiness to children everywhere. Third, it kicks off the start of outdoor fun in Calgary! Canada Day is a reminder that Stampede is right around the corner, along with all the other fun events that make summers in Calgary, Alberta so fun.
