It is here! Summertime! The sky is blue, the sun is bright, the warm breeze is tangled in your hair… This is the moment—your moment! The moment we have been dreaming of and yearning for ever since Christmas ended (because we all know that as soon as Christmas is over, there is no point to winter).
With this glorious season quickly coming to an end, you need to carpe diem! Part of seizing the day is not only going out and doing fun things (check out our two latest blog posts on ideas for fun things to do this summer), but enjoying summer treats while the temperature is soaring. After all, summertime and cool treats go hand in hand.
Today’s treats are all about helping cool you down during the hot, Alberta heat. They all include ingredients that you can pick up at your local grocery store and they are great to share with your family and friends.
So, here are our top three cold summer treats:
1). Chocolate Banana Popsicles: This one is so easy that you are probably going to want to drop everything right now and go make it. First of all, melt down some chocolate chips and peal some bananas. Stick a popsicle stick into the banana and dip it in the melted chocolate. Then, put the dipped bananas on a baking sheet and stick them in the freezer to freeze overnight. Serve them frozen and enjoy!
2). Fruit Schcabob: This one is also extremely easy to make. Cut up a bunch of fruit and stick them in whatever pattern you like on a BBQ skewer! Serve them just like that—they’re tasty, pretty, and very healthy for you! (Alternate: You could also dip these in chocolate, but then you eliminate the “healthy” aspect)
3). Adults Only: Nothing is sweet in summertime quite like a cold drink on a hot day. If you want to add a little spunk to your drink of choice, make some adult-friendly ice-cubes! Cut up whatever fruit you like most (berries work the best) and put them in each hole of an ice cube tray, then fill the trays with whatever alcoholic beverage you so desire and put the tray in the freezer. Pop these ice cubes in a soda or fruit punch to give your drink a little something extra!
Have fun with these recipes, and we’d love to hear some of your own summertime favorites! Stay safe, enjoy the rest of this beautiful season, and have fun!
