The Calgary Stampede is right around the corner, and we cannot wait to celebrate the best ten days of the year with you, YYC! We are so excited for this years' shows, food, events, shopping and western spirit. In celebration of Stampede being less than one month away, here are some fun facts about this years' Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth:
- The parade marshal this year is Jeremy Hansen! "Hansen will become the first Canadian to venture to the moon as part of the historic Artemis II mission. It’s the first crewed mission to leave Earth’s orbit since 1972 and will pave the way for deeper space exploration, including to Mars" (The Calgary Stampede).
- The Powwow competition will be back and bigger than ever! "The Calgary Stampede Powwow returns to the Saddledome for two days of competition on July 12 & 13. Featuring the best dancers and drummers from across Canada and the United States, this extraordinary competition will highlight the diversity of First Nations dancing, singing, and drumming" (The Calgary Stampede).
- Johnny Reid and The Young Canadians will headline the Grandstand this year! "Music, spectacular stunts, and jaw-dropping pyrotechnics. As the sun sets, the Bell Grandstand Show takes the stage to dazzle audiences with elaborate song, dance and live music performances. Feel the excitement, move to the music, and soar with the fireworks" (The Calgary Stampede).
- There will be 7 incredible shows for you to check out! "While the Stampede is known for the world-famous Rodeo, concert series, chuckwagon races, nightly Evening Show, and constant Midway action, there’s also a variety of other entertaining shows that run daily" (The Calgary Stampede). The shows are: Rodeo, Evening Show, Powwow, Dog Bowl, Monster Energy Compound, Stage of Wonders, and Drag Brunch.
- The Midway will be packed with wild new foods, such as Kool-Aid Chicken Burger, Deep-Fried Dad's Cookies, Fruit Loop Funnel Cake, Ketchup and Mustard Ice Cream, Spicy Pickle Lemonade, Mexican Corn Ribs, the $100 Jalapeno Cheddar Gut Buster Hotdog, and more! "
