Welcoming visitors into your home is both an art and a gesture of genuine hospitality. Whether you’re hosting friends, family, or acquaintances, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere can make all the difference in how your guests feel. In this summertime season, with so many people traveling to explore Calgary, you're probably going to have visitors!
Here are some thoughtful tips to ensure your visitors feel truly welcomed and at ease in your home:
- Write a welcome note: "Of course you’ll greet your guests with a big hug at the door, but take a tip from luxury hotels and back it up by leaving a thoughtful welcome note on their pillow or nightstand. Writing it on a local postcard or personal stationary is a lovely touch, and you can also include details your guest might need, such as the WiFi password" (Good Housekeeping).
- Make sure they have space for their belongings: "Whether they're staying in a room or sleeping on an air mattress, you want to make sure to provide an area where your guests can put their things. I mean, you don't want your guests to feel like nomads, right? Clear out a drawer or a portion of the closet — no one likes to live out of a suitcase" (Bustle).
- Make sure they have the necessities: "Nobody likes to feel like a needy guest, so it’s a good idea to anticipate what your visitors might need before they get there. Put together a basket or tray of travel-sized toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner, pain reliever) and leave it on the dresser, nightstand, or in the on-suite bathroom if you have one. Add a bottle of water and a glass on the bedside table in case your guest gets thirsty in the middle of the night" (Good Housekeeping).
- Give them space: "Even though your guests are staying in your home doesn't mean you need to be around them 24/7. Try to understand that your guests might have a few ideas on how they want to spend their vacation. Also, try to give them privacy when you both are in the house. Opt to go to bed early and watch TV in your room so they can have alone time and recharge" (Bustle).
