Here in Calgary, Alberta, Spring is the beautiful redemption on the horizon that follows a harsh winter. We eagerly anticipate the moment we can unplug our block heaters, store away mittens, and crack open the windows for the first time since the frost.
Spring is the perfect time to give your home a little refresh! Declutter and recycle/donate/throw away items you no longer need. Wipe down all the nooks and crannies, and take out the outside furniture again.
The most fun part of the post-spring clean is decorating for the new season. Whether you choose to lean into the upcoming Easter holidays or not, spring decor is a great way to add some life back into your home following a cold snap. Here are some tips from the experts:
- Lighter Bedding: "Warmer weather means you can pack away your winter layers, like heavy throw blankets and pillows. Refresh your bed with white sheets, floral pillow covers and linen throws" (Good Housekeeping).
- Make a Cheery Entry: "Welcome in the season and put your best front-door-foot forward with a cheery arrangement of spring flowers. If you're up for more of a makeover, try painting your door a similarly happy hue" (Country Living).
- Gallery Wall Entry: "Start your spring makeover in the entryway with a set of floral prints over a bench. Layer in pink and white throw pillows, wicker baskets and touches of fresh greenery" (Good Housekeeping).
- Pretty Up Your Pantry: "Embrace the spring cleaning spirit and upgrade your pantry with pretty glass jars, wicker baskets, and vintage accessories. Bonus points if the pantry is painted an equally serene shade of white" (Country Living).
- Rainbow Glassware: "Head to the antique store (or your grandma's attic) to find candy-colored stem glasses to put on display. Arrange them by color, height or any other way that pleases the eye" (Good Housekeeping).
- Create a Seasonal Garland: "Garland isn't just for the winter holidays, it works for Easter, too! Set up time for a craft-ernoon with the kids to create a blue-speckled egg garland" (Country Living).
- Fresh Greens and Florals: "Bring Mother Nature indoors by scattering plants and flowers — remember: fresh is best — around your kitchen. Just keep 'em near the sink, so you'll remember to water them" (Good Housekeeping).
- Shed Makeover: "The best part of spring is spending time in our favorite outdoor spaces. Do y0u have an old shed that needs some TLC? Easily convert it into the best backyard hangout with a fresh coat of paint and new daybed. Then, kick back with your new favorite read and laze about" (Country Living).
