Back To School: Keeping Your Home Organized

Back to school is right around the corner! The commercials are on TV, people are flooding Staples and Walmart for supplies, schools everywhere are dusting off their desks and students are trying desperately to soak in every stray moment of summer. With back to school time comes a new dedication to keeping things organized, especially the house. Here are some creative DIY additions that will make back to school easier on your home.

1). Front Entryway Locker Room: Transform your front entry into a mock-locker room by installing little stalls with space for yourself and each of your kids. Put a shelf up for winter hats and gloves, a coat hanger for jackets and backpacks, and a basket for miscellaneous items. This will prevent everything from getting mixed up and will make it much faster for everyone to get out the door in the morning.

2). Chalkboard Fridge: You can buy giant chalkboard stickers or use chalkboard paint to cover the front of your fridge. On the chalkboard you can write grocery lists, notes for the kids, whats for dinner, and reminders of special events. Kitchens are one of the most visited rooms in a house, so everyone will see all your notes. Bonus? It looks super cute and is fun for smaller children to colour on.

3). Desk Organization: IKEA has so many wonderful storage options. Use a planter to store crayons and school supplies instead of plants. This keeps everything organized instead of sprawled out everywhere. It also makes desk space easier to clean. Also make sure to pick up some standing folders for school assignments and extra paper. Add some bright lighting to make homework time easier on the eyes and prepare for a motivated and organized working space.

4). Bunk Bed Desk: Bunk Beds are an amazing way to maximize space in a room, especially if you can eliminate the bottom bunk and place a desk underneath it. Rather than a sprawling bedroom set up, it will be all contained and there will be way more room for other activities.

Good luck preparing for back to school!
