Hello, summer!
It is official festival season here in Calgary, Alberta. You know what that means... bring on the food trucks!
Food Trucks are mobile restaurants that serve food out of an old ice cream style truck. There are food trucks for everything these days, from Sushi to Tacos and Gelato to Cookie Dough. That's right, Cookie Dough. Here are some delicious local Calgary food trucks to hunt down this summer at an event near you:
Cookie Dough YYC & Family Squeezed Lemonade: We were not kidding; a cookie dough food truck exists! Cookie Dough YYC "is a family created and operated, award winning company that has taken Alberta by storm with marvelously tasty edible cookie dough! This dough is made with love, using heat-treated flour and pasteurized eggs so it's safe to eat raw, and is scooped liked ice cream." It makes our mouths water just thinking about it. Wash it down with Lemonade from Family Squeezed Lemonade that is "made to order; fresh fruit and herbs...with a twist! These fresh ingredients are chopped, assembled, and muddled right before your eyes."
Lil' Truck on the Prairie: Looking to bring upscale food to the streets? Check out this home-grown food truck that serves classics with a gourmet twist right in front of your eyes. Lil’ Truck On The Prairie debuted in 2017 "with an eclectic menu of casual-gourmet food. At [their] truck, you’ll find delicious, unique menu items made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients. From scratch. Every day. Because that’s the only way. " Not does this food truck serve it up, but their truck is so gorgeous it will make the perfect Instagram food shot background.
Arepa Boss: Although new to the food truck scene, Arepa Boss is already making waves and winning awards for their seriously good Arepas. They write, "Arepa Boss is a locally owned and locally loved food truck. Everything we create is naturally gluten free and explodes with flavour. Because the arepa is so diverse we cater to gluten-intolerant, vegans, vegetarians and carnivores. Our spicy chicken chorizo arepa received 3 awards at the 2018 Calgary Stampede including best international and best 'between buns.' We pride ourselves on fun, fast and friendly service which helped us earn 'Rookie of the Year' at last year's Stampede." They also donate their time and tasty food to local charities!
