Christmas in Calgary Bucket List

Christmas in Calgary is a magical time of the year. With so much to do and see, there is something for everyone hoping to make their spirits a little more merry and bright. Looking for some classic Calgary Christmas activities? We've got your Christmas in Calgary bucket list!

Here is your guide to Christmas in Calgary:

  1. Experience an old fashioned Christmas at Once Upon a Christmas at Heritage Park. Not only can you learn the holiday traditions of days past, but you'll get the chance to see Santa, explore the exhibits, pet fuzzy animals, try authentic Candy Cane, and so much more. These events are very family friendly, with lots to enjoy for every age.
  2. Volunteer with Operation Christmas Child! Calgary is home to one of Samaritan Purse's largest warehouses, where hundreds of thousands of shoeboxes are packed every year with toys, clothes, hygiene and writing products, and more. These shoeboxes are then shipped all across the globe to children in third-world communities. Spend an evening helping to prepare boxes for shipment, or pack a box yourself!
  3. Marvel at the lights along Stephen Avenue and in The Core Shopping Mall. With thousands of little bulbs and gorgeous strands, a walk down Stephen Ave is sure to get you in the Christmas spirit. Warm up inside the mall where more lights await, and get some Christmas shopping done in the process.
  4. Go for a skate on the Bowness Lagoon! Calgarians have been skating here for over a hundred years. There is a rental hut, place to get a hot drink, fireplaces to warm up by, and lots of beautiful ice to glide across. With twinkly lights and crisp air, this is a beloved Christmas tradition for many. Don't miss out!
  5. Check out one of Calgary's many cocktail bar themed nights! Places like Proof often doll up their spaces for Christmas, offering specialty drinks and holiday atmosphere that cannot be matched. Sometimes they even model the space after beloved Christmas movies, like Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street.
