Guest Room Hospitality

Hospitality is such a gift. Those who do it well have the ability to make people feel safe, loved, and relaxed. If you have a guest room that often hosts people, this is a great opportunity to practice hospitality. Little details can go a long way and are sure to make your home the standard to which all others are compared. Here are some tips to make your guest room shine:

  1. Invest in Décor: Do not simply shove a spare mattress in the room and call it a day. Take the time to thoughtfully curate a warm and welcoming environment. Paint it a nice neutral color, invest in a simple bedframe and mattress, get linens that are just for that bed, and make sure there is warm lighting available besides the overhead light. You do not need to do anything elaborate, but simple touches go a long way.
  2. Provide Amenities: Thrift a little basket, then go to the dollar store and get a mini toothbrush, toothpaste, and mouthwash. Don’t forget to add hair and body care items! What are things that are easy to forget when you travel? Make sure to include those.
  3. Go The Extra Mile: Have a phone charger next to bed and ready for use. Pick up some light reading or magazines for them to enjoy and set them on the bedside table. On the bed have a bottle of water and some treats with a welcome note; and make sure it includes the WIFI password. When guests first come to your home, they may feel hesitant to ask for things. Be one step ahead.

You never know what baggage people are bringing when they visit your home; and we don’t mean physical baggage, though you should ensure there is space for that, too. By giving someone a refuge to stay in while they visit, it can remind them that they are cared for and welcome. This can make such a beautiful impact on their lives moving forward, so make the most of it.
