It's Christmas morning for cowboys and cowgirls everywhere as Stampede officially kicks off! The greatest outdoor show on earth attracts millions to Calgary every single summer and has been a wild hit since its inception in 1912. While some Calgarians roll their eyes as tourists flock to our city, we feel proud to live in a place that hosts such a fantastic event focused on sportsmanship and the wild, wild west. The Calgary Stampede has been wowing attendees for over 100 years, and this year will be no different.
Some new activities are hitting the Saddledome grounds this year, such as a quarter pipe in the Monster Energy Compound and curling in the Big Four Roadhouse. One highly anticipated new event is sidesaddle racing. Avenue Magazine writes, "this new showcase event debuts this year for two nights only. Celebrate the horsewomen of Alberta during the Evening Show on July 7 and 8 and watch as they compete for first place at full speed around the track to the finish line directly in front of the Grandstand. These ladies will be wearing historically correct wardrobe and using sidesaddles that, in some cases, date back multiple generations."
And don't forget... the midway will have some incredible, strange, tasty treats such as watermelon soft serve and kangaroo pizza.

Ken Richter is the proud sponsor of the Bowness Community Stampede Parade, a must see, family friendly event happening this Saturday, July 7th. The Bowness Community Association writes, "the Bowness Lions & Merchants Stampede Parade and Breakfast is back for its 29th year! Breakfast starts at 7am in the parking lot by the Boys and Girls Club. The parade gets going at 9am at the Shouldice Bridge. Then it heads west along Bowness Road stopping near The Bownesian Grocery. Water guns and balloons are not allowed and candy will not be given out past 75th Street NW due to safety concerns." Arrive early to get the perfect spot for watching the parade!
