One of the most important things you can do when selling your home is to stage it properly. Staging is the art of presenting your home in its best possible light. When staging your home you want buyers to come away remembering it as clean, bright and open. They should be able to picture themselves lounging on the couch in the living room or having breakfast in the kitchen.
If you are looking for an idea of what a well-staged home looks like, visit a staged new infill. There are professionals you can hire to stage your home for you, as you will see in a show home. You can also stage your home yourself. Check out this link to read all of our blogs on home staging!
Home staging is easy, but what about during the holidays? What if you want to decorate a tree, or put lights up outside? When it comes to staging your home for sale during the holidays, we have one word for you: minimalism.
Minimalism is all about removing clutter and keeping things clean. Every object has a function or a purpose. This does not mean your home has to be empty; it simply means it has to be intentional. So when you are decorating for the holidays, ask yourself the following questions:
- Is this piece of decor important to the overall aesthetic, or is it extra clutter? For example, having a Christmas tree is essential to most homes celebrating the holidays this time of year. Put up the tree; after all, it is still your home, and you should be able to enjoy the pinnacle of Christmas decorations. However, the other knick-knacks may be worth skipping.
- Does this in any way inhibit potential buyer's ability to see the bones of my property or the potential of my property? Again, be minimal. Heavy garlands, figurines, large displays and more will make it harder for buyers to see what is beneath the decoration. Remember: you aren't selling decorations, you're selling a home.
- Will this be in the way and make it difficult for people to tour my home? Christmas can be a LOT. There are lots of lights, shiny things, smells, etc.. Be considerate of those viewing your home by keeping everything to a minimum so that their senses aren't overwhelmed, causing them to shut down.
Keep in mind that with the ongoing COVID-19 situation, viewing homes has changed. You don't need to worry about an Open House as there will only ever be private viewings. Keeping your space clean is more important than ever. We will always make sure our buyers respect your home and follow safety protocals.
Keep things simple and clean, but don't be afraid to get into the holiday spirit! After all, Christmas is coming soon.
