Home Styling Trends for 2023: Cottagecore

The 2023 trends for home styling could best be described as Cottagecore. Gone are the days of minimalism, block colours, and sharp edges; it's time to usher in a softer era of warm textiles and heirloom pieces. Cottagecore is the aesthetic of an idealized countryside lifestyle. Does this mean you need to start churning your own butter? No. You do not have to abandon the modern age to embrace this new style. In fact, you do not need to embrace this new style at all! However, if you're feeling trendy or looking for inspiration, here are some of the design elements experts are predicting will make a big splash this year:

  • "Delicate wallpaper in pastel tones, white furniture and gilded mirrors are the mark of this home trend" (HGTV).
  • "Think organic shapes, earthy uneven tones, and textural finishes... people are more drawn to these human, earthy-rooted details after years of stress, fear, and isolation. We're collectively craving an ability to see the hand of the artist and celebrate unvarnished naturalism" (Martha Stewart
  • "Gallery walls never really go out of style. They’re a great way to fill a wall with colour without having to invest (and even more difficult, decide on) a large art piece or commit to a dramatic pop of colour on the walls. They’re also easy to create by sourcing a mix of thrifted, vintage and new frames for an interesting mix of colours and designs" (HGTV).
  • "Sharp edges will make way for softer shapes in your home this year, so expect to see more arched doorways and entries, curved furniture, and rounded sculptural forms" (Martha Stewart
  • "We expect the reign of the white kitchen to be back and stronger than ever (after a brief turn to more colourfully accented kitchens over the past year). It’s easy to see why this trend has such popularity: white kitchens are classic, clean and stylish, making them a perpetual favourite of designers everywhere" (HGTV).
