January 2022 Calgary Events & Things To Do YYC

At the start of the new year, after all of the hype of Christmas, it's always nice to have some fun events planned to attend. It gives you something to look forward to, especially in the midst of this incredibly cold snap! However, with the Omicron variant of COVID-19 causing further shutdowns as the risk of contraction grows, many events are being cancelled. This is unfortunate, but a necessary precaution as mass gatherings aren't safe to participate in.

With the uncertainty of Alberta's COVID restrictions looming, instead of giving you a list of events happening around the city that could all change completely, we thought we would provide you with fun activities that you can do no matter what state the province is in. These three activities will get you out of the house and exploring this beautiful city!

For a Warm Day: Explore St. Patrick's Island: With gorgeous art installations, playgrounds for children, a pristine pathway system and beautiful downtown views, St. Patrick's Island has become a fan favourite of Calgarians. Located in East Village, it's accessible by train and near lots of parking.

For A Cold Day: Shop the Calgary Farmer's Market: As a designated retail space, the Calgary Farmer's Market has managed to stay open through every COVID Lockdown while maintaining safe capacity limits and a modified dining experience. Explore local vendors, stock up on tasty foods, and support our small business community.

For Any Day: Discover our Murals: Calgary has really invested in bringing beautiful art to the city by local artists in a way that won't break the bank. One of the ways they have done this is by providing more permits to muralists, who have turned blank walls into stunning works of art. Go for a drive and check them out, they provide the perfect photo-op!

Calgary has so much to offer, we are lucky to live here! Get out and enjoy the city, and have a great New Year!
