Happy New Year, everyone! All of us here at Team Ken Richter are excited for what 2016 has in store. Like many people, this year we made New Year’s resolutions. What is at the top of our list? Helping homeowners make their real estate dreams come true.
The new year is a fantastic time to work towards new goals and resolutions because everyone gets a fresh start. 2016 will be whatever you make of it and January is the perfect time to hit the ground running. However, january can also be disappointing for some. Resolutions are great, but they are hard to keep, leading to more backsliding than before. We don’t want that for any of you.
What can you do to ensure you are able to stick to your goals and keep your resolutions?
Word them positively. For example, if your goal in the new year is to lose weight, don’t write that down or meditate on it. Instead, frame it this way: my goal for the new year to become a stronger, healthier person. Refrain from letting any negative words like “lose” “stop” “force” etc. be part of the resolution you tell yourself everyday. What you speak is what will come to life: make it positive.
Be realistic. Challenge yourself, but don’t set an impossible goal for yourself. When you come off the high of the new year and realize you over-reached, it will deter you from working towards any part of the goal. For example, if you want to find a job doing something you love, don’t say “I want to have my dream job by the end of the year.” Instead, consider this: “I want to be in a field that sets me on the path to my dream job by the end of the year.” You may not go from Barista to CEO in one year, but getting in the building is still a fantastic step.
Stay accountable. Find someone who has the same goals and resolutions as you and the two of you can work together to accomplish everything! Not only can you encourage them and keep them accountable, but they can do the same for you. You will be able to support each other in the good and bad because you’ll know what each other is going through. Telling someone your resolutions is also more likely to make you stick to them because you’ll have someone asking about your progress.
Good luck to all you resolution makers out there! We’re rooting for you.
