Staycation Ideas for Spring Break

Spring Break is next week for many students in the Calgary public school system. While some have already been working from home as they attend school virtually, starting next week children everywhere are going to have a lot more free time on their hands! Since traveling somewhere exotic for Spring break is not an option this year, we've rounded up some Staycation ideas for your kids this spring break. Read on for details!

DIY Olympics: Each day of spring break have a different competition for your kids to compete in. Events can range from an obstacle course in the house to a puzzle competition. Craft little medals for them and then do a big winners banquet of their favourite treats and meal at the end of the week. This will give them something to look forward to each day and help give some structure to your week at home.

Field Trips: While social distancing and public precautions are still in place, it is safe to explore the city and enjoy what Calgary has to offer as long as you follow guidelines. Plan a little field trip for each day of spring break that ventures out into the city, such as going to the Zoo, Heritage Park, lunch downtown, ice cream tasting at different local makers, a walk in the park, etc. Again, this gives some structure to your week at home and is something for everyone to look forward to.

Spring Crafting: Go on a walk to collect natural supplies such as pinecones and pebbles, and then hit up the Dollar Store and Michaels to get other crafting supplies. Find some cute craft ideas for things to make from Pinterest, and let your kids get creative. You can decorate for Easter or spring, you could even do some family house cleaning and purging to usher in the new season. This is especially good for parents working still, because it gives your kids something to do while you're working.

What are you looking forward to doing this spring break?
