Calgary has so much to offer for travellers and locals wanting mini day-trip adventures. Containing many historic sites and a rich arts culture, YYC is a fantastic place to visit if you’re looking for fun things to do with the family. However, Calgary isn’t the only place in this area that has a lot to offer. Here are some places nearby that are great for family vacations:
1). Bearberry: This gorgeous piece of land located just west of Sundre is filled with beautiful hiking trails, a river, local wildlife, and a beautiful campground and cabin area. Open at all times of the year, Bearberry is the perfect city getaway for those who want to embrace their inner Waldo Emerson and spend some time away from it all with the family.
2). Waterton Lakes National Park: Crystal-clear waters, quaint town shopping, hiking trails, historic sites, and a gorgeous view from every angle, Waterton Lakes National Park is perfectly nestled between the mountains and foothills to offer a secluded mountainside oasis. Make sure you book lots of time off work, because you won’t want to leave.
3). Great Falls, MT: Great Falls, Montana is a mere five hour drive from Calgary. The city offers amazing shopping and dining, and is great for anyone who wants to get out of Canada and visit our southern neighbours. It is also nearby Flathead National Forest, which boasts historic trails, horseback riding, and camping. Get your passport and enjoy a little trip to America!
4). Oregon: Oregon is another American State that is close to Calgarians and offers something different than what they are used to. This place is infamous for its beautiful coast and camping areas. Pack your tent, a cooler, a map, and go on an unplanned adventure. With so much to offer, it won’t be hard to stumble upon a hidden jewel.
Take advantage of all the unique areas close to Calgary and go on an adventure with your family this summer. Have fun!
