Top 3 Fall Renovations

Autumn is the perfect time for finishing renovation projects you started in the spring/summer and beginning new ones to prepare your home for winter. Remember that home renovations are an important part of keeping your property up to date and in the best condition possible. They add incredible value to your property!

Here are three great renovations for your home this fall:

Painting

  • A fresh coat of paint is a great way to spruce up your home’s aesthetics. Not only will paint make your home look fresh and new, but there is also a psychology behind painting. Certain colours can elicit certain psychological responses. For example, blue is a colour that is great for productivity. You may not want to use extreme bright or dark colours, so look at an autumn palette. Mustard yellow, berry red, rustic orange, gentle hues of green, and smokey blues are all great colours for the home. They are crisp, but not overpowering.

Windows

  • The fall is the perfect time of the year to do last minute window repairs. Why? Because replacing windows in the winter is cold and costly. Not only will you be buying the new window but you will also have to buy materials to make a temporary building shelter (unless you’re okay with snow and cold flooding into your home, but most people would rather not have that happen). Replacing windows is important for keeping the cold out effectively.

Basement

  • Cozy basements are the perfect place to retreat to during cold winter evenings. Install warm, soft carpet for your frozen toes or a nice plush rug over existing hardwood flooring. A little space heater can be purchased for under $50 to warm up the space. Making your basement into a little entertainment centre is the perfect addition to your home! Not only can you make it cozy for the winter, but come summertime it will be coolest place in the house to escape the heat.

The air is getting crisp and clouds are rolling in. Hurry and do these simple renovations before it is too cold!
