Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16th!
It is a day dedicated to celebrating old, new and honorary father figures for the presence they have had in our lives. They do so much to make this world--and our worlds, in particular--a better place. Just like our other loved ones, Fathers deserve to be celebrated every day. However, on the official Father’s Day, it is nice to go the extra mile.
Conveniently, this year Father's Day Weekend is also the same weekend as Calgary's Neighbour Day, which takes place tomorrow, June 15th! Neighbour Day is a celebration of Calgary's incredible community spirit, designated by Mayor Nenshi following the devastating 2013 floods. Neighbour Day is a time to celebrate what makes our city great!
Here are some fun things to do this weekend to celebrate both Father's Day & Neighbour Day:
1). Host a block party! Block parties are a great way to bring your immediate community together for some fun, sun and good food! Have it set up as a potluck so each household contributes something, whether that be a dish, drinks, decorations, or games. Near the end of the block party bring out a special cake for Father's Day, and have everyone join in on a rendition of 'For He's A Jolly Good Fellow.'
2). Take your Dad out on the town! There are so many unique restaurants, shops, parks and more in every neighbourhood in Calgary, Alberta. Explore your neighbourhood on Sunday with your dad! You never know what gems you might find that you never even knew existed. You'll get quality time with your Dad which he will appreciate, and you'll learn more about this fantastic city!
3). Shop Local! Looking for a gift for Father's Day? Check out the deals happening around the city for Neighbour Day, particularly in places such as Inglewood that is home to lots of small, local, home-grown Calgary businesses. Get your dad something he will love while also supporting your fellow citizens!
Happy Father's Day & Neighbour Day!
