Looking for some healthy back to school treats? Look no further. Team Ken Richter has got you covered.
Veggies in a Mason Jar: Cut vegetables, such as peppers, cucumbers, celery and carrots, into strips. Put them in a mason jar, then put dipping sauce into an empty (and cleaned) fruit cup. Attach the fruit cup to the jar using the sealing ring and you are good to go!
Frozen Grapes: Flash freeze grapes by spreading them out, already rinsed, on a baking sheet and putting them in the freezer for 3-5 hours. Flash freezing helps keep the grapes from freezing onto each other. Once frozen the grapes can be put into Ziploc bags and stored back in the freezer until you are ready to enjoy them!
Chips & Dip: This is a classic for a reason. Get some plain tortilla chips with a low sodium level and pack them with salsa, hummus, bruschetta or another healthy dip.
Infused Water: We get it; plain water is boring and someone even believe this tasteless liquid tastes bad. To fix this problem, infuse your water with fresh fruits or vegetables! Simply cut up the fruit and add it to water in a mason jar, then let it sit overnight in the fridge.
*Note: stay away from drink mixes that claim to be "healthy alternatives." Fresh and natural is the best way to go if you want to avoid ingesting potentially harmful chemicals.
Homemade Fruit & Granola Bars: Store bought granola bars are okay, but they are usually packed with sugar. A quick Pinterest search will pull up literally hundreds of recipes for healthy alternatives to this healthy, filling snack. Don't be shy; get creative and let your inner baker flourish!
We can't forget about your favorite pet... try making healthy Dog Biscuits: Simply combine rolled oats, flour, peanut butter and hot water to make a dough, then bake it just like you would a cookie. Voila! It is that easy, and you'll know exactly what your best friend is eating.
