Spring Decor Staging

March 20th was the first official day of spring. Crazy, right? Since then we have had a number of snowstorms and cloudy skies, most notably yesterday when it snowed all day long. The good news? The snow was wet and heavy, and the heat of the sunshine today has already begun to melt it. While Mother Nature seems to want to keep winter around, the sun is on our side. Thank goodness!

Regardless of how high our snow piles still are, the beautiful reality is that it is, in fact, spring. Around this time is when our homes transition out of winter. We begin to pack away our snow pants and mittens (with a knock on wood), any remaining Christmas lights get taken down, moody blues and rich reds are replaced with pastels, and we decide to force spring into being until it finally gives in.

While some people redecorate for every season, not everyone does. It's your house, so if you decide winter is going to be year-long, go for it. Keep your lights up and that snowman figurine in the guest room. However, if you are preparing to sell your home, you need to stage it for spring. This is important whether you think it is or not. Spring is the busiest times of the year for real estate, so join the season and make the most of it.

There are some small spring décor touches you can add to your staging to make people step into your home for sale and take a deep breath and smile. Let your home be a springy oasis from the dreary snow outside.

  • Fresh (Or Fake) Flowers: Stop by your local Michaels and get some bright blossoms to freshen up your home! A vase of fresh flowers on the kitchen island, dining room table or T.V room coffee table will make everyone feel fresh and springy! You don't have to spend a lot of money or put together some outrageous bouquet, have fun with it!
  • A Welcome Mat: You can find some really cheeky welcome mats, such as ones that demand you show up with wine or leave. There are also some really fun Canadiana and hand-lettered mats for sale at places such as Sterling Homes. Even if you have a plain doormat, put it out! Welcome mats do exactly what they say they do: make people feel welcomed.
  • Throw Pillows: Use springy throw pillows to bring a touch of colour and fun to your beds and couches. Placed like IKEA and Indigo have really nice, springtime prints that are also inexpensive. They will make your rooms pop!
  • Open the Windows: Open the windows and dust the blinds! We may not have hot temperatures, but we do have sunlight, so take advantage of it! The more natural light you can bring into your home, the better. It just screams SPRINGTIME!

Have fun with it!
