Things To Do This Family Day

Family Day Long Weekend has arrived!

Most people will be enjoying one extra day away from school and work to relax. This weekend was designed to give families the opportunity to spend quality time together, since doing so in the midst of a busy new year can be difficult. Whether you have family or friends to celebrate with, extend yourself to those around you to make the most of this opportunity. If you are scratching your head wondering what you could possibly do this incredibly cold family day in Calgary, Alberta, here are some ideas:

1). Visit the new Public Library: Calgary's new library has been drawing crowds from around the world; literally! People have come from far and wide to see this architectural feat. What is so unique about this building is that even though it cost hundreds of millions of dollars, it is completely free to explore. There is comfy seating, internet access, thousands of books and more to enjoy. Wander around and find some reads to cozy up with, and snap a few pictures while you're there!

2). Go for a Drive: Listen, we get it. We have been very spoiled with the weather up until now, but it is very cold all of a sudden. Spoil yourself and your loved ones by getting a cup of hot chocolate or coffee from one of Calgary's local cafes, such as Monogram, Rosso Coffee Roasters or Urban Bean, then head out for a winter drive! Go into the mountains and enjoy the snow-capped mountains, drive through Mount Royal and marvel at the historic homes, check out a new part of the city you've never been to, or just drive and see where you end up.

3). Catch a show! There are so many entertainment options out there for Calgarians. You could go cheer on your favorite team, catch a new movie, listen to a local band and an old bar, or buy a ticket to the theatre. There are "treat yourself" options and "FREE" options. Check our Avenue Calgary Magazine for suggestions on what is happening around the city.

Whatever you do, make the most of your day off! Put the to-do list aside and bask in the light of family fun and long weekends.
