Calgary Bowness Montgomery Real Estate Home News - Ken Richter's Blog

While we enjoy a beautiful autumn, every tried-and-true Calgarian knows that Winter is right around the corner. Make sure that you and your property are prepared by tackling these outdoor projects before snow sweeps over the nation:

  • Protect your yard equipment with a shed: "a backyard storage shed is an essential addition to your space, ensuring tools and equipment are protected from the harsh conditions of winter. Beyond its utility, a well-designed shed adds visual charm to your landscaping, blending functionality with aesthetics" (Backyard Boss).
  • Get your grass ready for the long winter and upcoming spring by aerating: "If want your outdoor space to look lush and green once the snow melts, aerating your lawn is a great first step. Once…

Today is National Truth & Reconciliation Day, and Orange Shirt Day.

Orange Shirt Day was inspired by the story of Phyllis Webstad. As a little girl, she was taken to a residential school. Phyllis writes, “we never had very much money, but somehow my granny managed to buy me a new outfit to go to the Mission school. I remember going to Robinson’s store and picking out a shiny orange shirt. It had string laced up in front, and was so bright and exciting – just like I felt to be going to school! When I got to the Mission, they stripped me, and took away my clothes, including the orange shirt! I never wore it again… The color orange has always reminded me of that and how my feelings didn’t matter, how no one cared, and how I felt like I was worth…

Calgary may be a beautiful city, but it's an old city. With its history comes some spooky tales, just like any place. We may not be known for hauntings and Halloween horror, but Calgary has plenty of stories to tell. Here are some of the haunted sites and scary stories from right here at home:

  • The Deane House:  " While the historic building was a boarding house, it was the scene of many murders. The apparition of a ghostly man who was gunned down on the front porch has been seen by visitors, as well as a man missing his legs in a hallway on the ground floor. In Mr Deane’s study, the apparition of a gentleman in period clothing has been seen smoking a cigar. Ghostly laughter is heard, cold spots are felt and a piano in a room on the second floor…

And what about during the holidays? What if you want to decorate for Halloween, or put up the Christmas lights?

When it comes to staging your home for sale during the holidays, we have one word for you: minimalism. Minimalism is all about ensuring every object has a function or a purpose. This does not mean your home has to be empty; it simply means it must be intentional. You can still enjoy the décor of the holidays…

As beautiful as Calgary's autumn season is, it’s the beginning of the end for long sunny days. With the sun setting earlier each day, the nights are stretching. Have you noticed yourself feeling tired earlier in the evening? This is likely because of this change.

The shorter days have a significant impact on home showings. This is because it is incredibly difficult to properly assess a prospective home when it’s too dark to see it. You may notice showing bookings trend earlier in the day, even first thing in the morning, to avoid the dark nights.

How can you help? Here are some tips:

  1. Ensure your viewing windows…
