Ahhh, the long weekend is here! Everyone seems to take a deep breath when a long weekend arrives, knowing they will have one more day to rest.

Did you know that in some countries, such as Belgium, nearly every workplace keeps to a four day work day? They find it makes employees more productive, and has increased levels of happiness. Instead of packing one day of your weekend with errands, you have a day just for that. After all, we were never intended to work a 40 hour work week AND take care of domestic duties. Canada Day Long Weekend is born out of Canada Day, a day celebrating the birth of the true north strong and free. At Reference they explain, "Canada Day, celebrated every year on July 1, is a Canadian federal holiday that celebrates the enactment of the British North America Act of 1867. Planning what to do each summer is exciting. Most people have been dreaming about their summer vacation plans since fall. It gives people something to look forward to and to work towards.

Nothing feels better than a restful holiday well earned. In fact, taking vacation time is highly recommended for a very scientific reason: vacations help you to live longer. Happy long weekend!


There is nothing quite as glorious as having not one, not two, but three days in a row off! Long weekends feel like the only weekends you get to truly relax, which is why we are planning on making the most of it. They only come around once every month or so, after all! 

Not sure what to do this long weekend? Here are some ideas:
