Happy Canada Day Long Weekend!

Canada Day Long Weekend is born out of Canada Day, a day celebrating the birth of the true north strong and free. At Reference they explain, "Canada Day, celebrated every year on July 1, is a Canadian federal holiday that celebrates the enactment of the British North America Act of 1867. The act united three colonies into a single country within the British Empire, and named that country Canada." Essentially, Canada Day is Canada's birthday!

Here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada Day is used to mark a number of notable moments in our year. First, it signifies the first long weekend of the summer! Campgrounds are going to be packed as people get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Second, it is the first official…

Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 16th!

It is a day dedicated to celebrating old, new and honorary father figures for the presence they have had in our lives. They do so much to make this world--and our worlds, in particular--a better place. Just like our other loved ones, Fathers deserve to be celebrated every day. However, on the official Father’s Day, it is nice to go the extra mile.

Neighbour Day is a celebration of Calgary's incredible community spirit, designated by Mayor Nenshi following the devastating 2013 floods. Neighbour Day is a time to celebrate what makes our city great!

Here are some fun…

In Calgary we are known for many wonderful things: The Calgary Stampede, being the gateway to the mountains, the pandas at the Calgary Zoo, our gorgeous new downtown Library, our support of small, local businesses, our friendly citizens, Mayor Nenshi (once voted the best in the world), our sports teams, that time William and Kate dropped by during their royal tour, and so much more.
