This year we decided to launch a blogging series to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday. We featured each province's history, how they celebrated Canada 150 in their unique way, and a list of some of the best places to check out the next time you visit that province. We hope you have enjoyed learning more about Canada and have been filled with a sense of wanderlust; we sure have!

There is lots happening in the community of Bowness right now! Here are some of the highlights:

  • On December 2nd the Bowness Community Association will be hosting their annual Christmas Dinner. Make sure you have your tickets (note: there is a limit of four tickets per Bowness resident). Congratulations, Calgary!

You were voted that 5th most livable city for the 7th straight year! 

Cities across the globe are voted on a scale of 1-100. Points are awarded for stability, education, healthcare, infrastructure and culture and environment. Tied with Adelaide, Australia, Calgary earned a score of 96.6. The top score went to Melbourne, Australia which scored 97.5. A 0.9 point difference is all that separated us!

This achievement is a testament to the truly great city that Calgary is, and the people who make it so wonderful. Every August the Perseid Meteor Shower is visible here in Calgary, and it is an opportunity you do not want to miss. This year's is particularly important for all of you amateur astronomers out there, since NASA has advised the public that it will be their best chance to see a meteor shower this year.

Although the moon will be bright enough to hinder some visibility, you can expect to see, on average, 80 meteors an hour. Meteor sightings are best after 1 a.m, just before dawn. If you're planning to catch the show, make sure you are prepared with warm clothing, blankets, snacks and water.

The best place to witness any astronomical event is far away from any light pollution. Light pollution is at its most concentrated in big cities such as Calgary. If…
